Sunday Raygor Larson

Sunday Raygor Larson passed away December 12, 2018 at the age of 77.

Sunday was born August 10, 1941 in Superior, Wisconsin to Clifford Everson and Harriet Berniece (Clough) Raygor. Her father worked in the shipyard and for Great Northern Railroad, while her mother worked as a nurse and Sunday school teacher. Her mother’s family genealogy was very important to the family. Numerous books have been written about the family, which can be traced back to before the Mayflower. Growing up in Superior with her younger brothers, Senator and Steward, Sunday loved the Christmas season, singing in the church choir at Hope Congregational Church, and sharing “the Sledding Hill Story.” As a teenager, she worked at Newberry’s, the local five and dime. They published her picture in the ads they used for the paper. She enjoyed spending time with her friends Nancy and Karen while continuing to sing in the choir. After graduating from Superior’s Central High School, she went to Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, where she took writing classes. She also took classes at Merritt Community College in Oakland, California.

Sunday married her brother’s best friend, Dave. They had known each other for years before they got together as a couple. They were married August 24, 1968 in Superior, between boot camp and Dave’s first base assignment. After trying for two years to conceive children on their own, Sunday and Dave decided to adopt. Lisa was adopted in San Diego, and April was adopted in Lincoln, Nebraska. With Lisa and April being very different personalities and intelligence types, she had her hands full when they were growing up. She was involved in the PTA and band booster club. A supportive mother, Sunday was also willing to give her opinions and advice on everything, whether it was asked for or not. She advised her girls, “Don’t beat yourself up because there are plenty of people who’ll do it for you.” Her children were the second most important thing in Sunday’s life, after her husband Dave. Sunday’s life work was her family, making sure every “I” was dotted and every “t” was crossed. She took care of everyone and everything, going above and beyond at all times.

Sunday was a feisty woman who loved to travel. She was able to go to Eastern Europe with her daughter Lisa and her grandson David in 2014. She visited the Great Wall of China three times, was able to climb the Dalai Lama’s stairs in Tibet and ride through Vietnam on the back of a moped. She took trips to the Black Hills and enjoyed family reunions in South Dakota and Iron River, Wisconsin. In her free time, Sunday loved gardening, especially roses and hibiscus, because as she always said, “Gardeners know all the dirt.” She enjoyed reading, writing, and watching soap operas. She collected Dickens’ village houses at Christmas, Jim Shore wooden figures of angels and snowmen, and seasonal flags of all different kinds. She loved Halloween and enjoyed getting dressed up in costumes. Sunday was known for her hospitality, and enjoyed throwing parties for all occasions. Her home was always open to friends and family who were visiting the area.

Sunday will be greatly missed by her husband Dave, her daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Nick Holcomb, her daughter April Larson, her grandchildren David, Ree, and Greg Holcomb, her brother and sister-in-law Senator and Ginette Raygor, and her brother and sister-in-law Steward and Gloria Raygor.

To honor Sunday’s life, her family has planned a visitation on Monday, December 17 from 5-7 at Hillier Funeral Home in College Station. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 10 AM at Hillier Funeral Home in College Station, with a reception to follow the service. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Superior, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be made in Sunday’s name to the American Diabetes Association.
