Shawn Nix

Deshawn “Shawn” Donye Nix, 35, peacefully went to be with our Lord and Savior Friday, December 7, 2018. Shawn was born on March 16, 1983 in Toledo, Ohio to Marsha Nix-Waddy and Antwoine Davis.

As a small child he was full of energy, curiosity and mischief. He spent a large amount of his childhood in the country of Holland, Ohio. There, he and his cousins Shannon, Shag, and Darian could be found digging in the dirt and playing in the water. Shawn was affectionately known as “Tinky” and “Tater Red.” He also enjoyed tearing things apart and putting them back together in order to figure out how they worked. At the age of seven he moved to Texas with his mother. He attended Best Elementary and played little league football for the Steelers. While attending Elkins High School in Missouri City, TX, he was a member of Civil Air Patrol and ROTC. After graduation he continued on to Texas Tech University where he majored in Engineering and was again involved in ROTC.

While in Lubbock, he began his 16 year career at FedEx Freight starting out as a dock associate moving up to management. This required several moves across the greater southwest. Along for the ride was the love of his life, Ashley, whom he met in Lubbock in 2003. In 2010 they married and had two beautiful daughters, Aurora and Aria. Shawn was a loving and doting father and husband who took great pride in caring for his family.

Shawn’s hobbies included building and driving fast cars, collecting sneakers, and honing his skills as a BBQ pit master. He often could be found barbecuing for his employees during work functions. He never outgrew his desire to take things apart and put them back together and was always looking for new projects to work on. Shawn enjoyed a good laugh and could spend hours watching, laughing, and sharing funny videos with all he knew. Shawn was also known for his tagline “Don’t be scared.” He had a deep appreciation for all types of music and could recall the lyrics to every song he heard. Shawn relished spending down time with his beloved dog Tyson. He also enjoyed traveling especially to visit family. Shawn was a beautiful man of humility, a son of selflessness, robust energy, and a giver. He was truly a gift from God, loved sincerely and will be missed beyond measure.

He is survived by his wife of 8 years Ashley Nix and daughter Aria Nix, parents Antwoine Davis and Marsha Nix-Waddy (Anthony), siblings Deanna Rice (Ron, nephew Ronald), Savannah Waddy, Anthony Waddy, Shay Waddy (niece and nephew Aubri and Jace), Madeline Bumpus-Davis, and Hannah Gillard, aunts Marian, Teresa, Sharon, Valerie, Rhoda and uncles Donald, Bobbie, Felises, and John, and many beloved cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughter Aurora Rose Nix, maternal grandparents James Edward and Bessie Mae Nix, paternal grandmother Barbara Anise Burton, aunt Donna Jean Burrell, uncle James Nix Jr. and cousin Richard Smith.

A life celebration gathering will be held from 6-8 PM on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan followed by a Celebration of Life at 2 PM on Saturday, December 15, 2018 also at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan. Additional services and interment will be held in Lubbock.
