Robert Byron Harris

Robert Byron Harris was born in Flora, Mississippi to Maude and William Harris on June 29th, 1935. He was born into a family of four brothers and one sister.

He studied law and received his law license from American University in Washington, D.C. He worked while going to law school in the senate offices of Senators Stennis and Eastland. He was on the moot court debating team. He had a case before the United States Supreme Court.

While in Washington, D.C., he met his future wife, Ann Nighswonger. They were married for 60 years.

In 1977, Bob, Ann, and their daughter Laura moved to Bryan where he continued practicing law. In addition to his law practice, he taught Federal government and business law for 22 years at Blinn.

During his retirement, he enjoyed hunting with his brothers and playing 42 with many friends. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife Ann and daughter Laura. Brothers surviving are George of Dallas, Tom of Decatur, Bill of Jackson, Mississippi, and Dr. John Harris of Bryan. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Robert to the Salvation Army of Bryan, Bryan First United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, and Brazos Hospice.

To honor Robert’s life, his family has planned a visitation at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan on August 7 from 6-8. His funeral service will be at 10 AM on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church of Bryan, with a reception to follow at the church.
