Mildred Johnston

Mildred S. Johnston, 91, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2018 at the Isle of Watercrest in Bryan.

Mildred was born on October 10, 1927 to Herbert and Jessie Ruth (Read) Steward. The third of six children, Mildred grew up with siblings Jesse Viola, Loyce Carrol, Bobby Roland, James Earl, and Billie Ruth in the small town of Colmesneil, Texas. After high school, she worked as a proof operator in the banking industry.

Mildred married Walker E. Johnston on October 22, 1947 in Colmesneil and the two were blessed with 59 years of marriage before he passed in 2006. Their union produced four children.

Mildred was preceded in death by her beloved husband Walker E. Johnston and her daughter Ruth Ann Busby. She leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law Karen Johnston and Steve Edwards of Conroe, her son and daughter-in-law Jesse and Geneva Johnston of Bryan, her son and daughter-in-law Bruce and Christy Johnston of Waco, eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.

The family wishes to express its thanks and deepest appreciation to the management and staff of the Isle of Watercrest for all the love and care shown to their special mother.

To honor Mildred’s life, her children have planned a funeral service to be held on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 2 PM at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan, with a reception to follow, also at Hillier.
