Macille Gilliam Moore, 96, passed away at her home on September 12, 2018, surrounded by her family. She particularly enjoyed having her granddaughter Mary Elizabeth Moore who cared for her during these last months. She was born June 26, 1922, in Fall Creek, Hood County, Texas, to Richard and Allie Haney Gilliam, the youngest of nine children who gave her the nickname “Babe.”
Macille was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Senator, William T. “Bill” Moore, with whom she spent 30 years actively involved in Texas politics traveling back and forth to Austin. Lifelong friendships were made in the Senate Ladies Club in which she served as president. She often served as hostess at events in Austin and in Bryan for events to promote TAMU in the legislature. She was active many years in Civic League.
She loved to cook for her family, especially her grandchildren. Family dinners at “Mere’s” were a treat for her family and anyone else who came. Food and conversation were plentiful with special dishes for everyone’s finicky palate. Family meant everything to her. She enjoyed sending cards, letters, packages, and phone calls to her family. She was delighted when her grandson Trey and his wife Rachel moved back to Bryan to be closer to her, giving her 12 years with her great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Juanita Peters, Edna Winn, Tessie Posey, and Oletha Kelly; her brothers Dr. R.M. “Rocky” Gilliam, Eulon Gilliam, Raymond Gilliam, J. W. Gilliam; and her niece Constance Gilliam McDougal.
She is survived by her son W. Tyler Moore and her daughter-in-law Mary McKenzie Moore; grandchildren William Tyler “Trey” Moore III and his wife Rachel S. Moore, Meredith M. Wiersma, and Mary Elizabeth Moore; great-grandchildren Ashlyn, Madelyn, and Merilyn Jewel Moore, Tyler and Parker Wiersma; nieces and nephews Jane Helm, Dr. Robert Gilliam, Hon. Dan Gilliam, Pat G. Welch, Marvin Posey, Jeanne Smith, Deanna Hubbard, Janet Matthieu, Jimmie Gilliam, J. B. Gilliam and beloved caretaker Sally Guajardo.
