Virginia "Ginny" Sue Brown Machann, 77, of College Station, Texas, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023 from Rhabdoid Carcinoma.

Ginny was raised in Kenesaw, Nebraska and graduated from Kenesaw High School in 1963. She obtained BA and MA degrees in English from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. She later pursued her doctorate in English at the University of Texas at Austin, where she fell in love with a fellow graduate student, Clinton Machann of Caldwell, Texas. The two married on December 30, 1974. She received her PhD in English Literature in 1979.

Clint and Ginny made their home in College Station, Texas, where they raised three daughters. She later returned to the classroom, teaching English at Blinn Junior College until her retirement in 2015. She loved writing, reading and teaching literature, and talking about big ideas. She was endlessly curious about the world and shared her love of learning and crafting stories with her students, friends, and family. She saw her children and grandchildren as her greatest legacy.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Lisa (Paul) Jasa, and her brother, Tom Brown.

She is survived by her husband Clinton; daughters Alena (Kersten) Horn, Tessie (Tim) West, and Sarah (John) Piel; grandsons, Marc and Mattis Horn, Cyril West, and Adley Piel; brother Gerry (Karen); nieces Shelly (Shawn) Gallagher and Katie (Philip) Styrt; and nephew John (Kate Weskamp) Jasa.
