Veronica Leigh Redell Hart

August 23, 1966 — May 30, 2023

Veronica Leigh Redell Hart was born August 23, 1966 in Atwater, California but also grew up in Houma, Louisiana and Meadows Place, Texas. She was a star student and an Honor graduate. An over-achiever, she was also a gifted musician, playing clarinet in the school band, and was involved in her church community. At TAMU, she was a solid student who found her calling in crunching numbers. Thus, it made sense that she worked as a financial planner, but she never made any real money because she was more invested in helping those with the most to lose.

Veronica met her husband, David, for the first time in 10th grade English Class. They became close friends during their time at A&M and their first date was not until the end of their junior year. She eventually married that best friend and they loved together for 34 years!

Her parents are devout Catholics, and she grew up in a home filled with faith. She shared that faith with her children and gently nudged her husband to convert as an adult. Her selfless nature and unrelenting will led her to volunteer in the community and help others, especially those who were less privileged. She always served others and not herself, in all things that she did.

Veronica was pivotal in the growth process for the local Health for All Clinic and Habitat for Humanity non-profit organizations. She was proud to serve as a board member, but never used it for self-aggrandizement or pad her resume. She valued kindness, compassion, determination, patience, acceptance of one’s limitations, and the grace to “be perfectly adequate”. Fierce and determined, she felt that she was a “lucky, lucky dog” and didn’t “worry about dust bunnies because there were babies that needed rocking.”

She was preceded in death by her dearest friend, Rose; her beloved grandparents, “Mamie” Willie Lou Talbot Chilton and “The Colonel” Carl Chilton, “Papa” Joe Redell, and Mary Hazel Wassum Redell.

Veronica is survived by her spouse, David Hart; her children, Joshua Hart and wife Tiffany Barrett Hart, Caleb Hart, and Meredith Hart; parents, Chuck and Cala Redell; and siblings, John Redell and wife Michele, Lara Redell Hensley and husband Charley, and Joanne Redell Janssen and husband Earl; and thirteen nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to acknowledge the special community that Veronica was part of through her illness, especially the Mastocytosis Society.  She was a well-known contributor to their online boards, and she literally saved a number of lives over the years by encouraging people to "use epi fast, ask questions later".

In addition, the family wants to praise the loving care shown by Dr. Rusty Bacak, Dr. Keith Paull, Dr. Erin Fleener, and their staffs during all of the years that Veronica suffered with her devastasting mastocytosis.
