Vera C Arredondo

Vera C. Arredondo, 79, of Bryan, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2022

Vera was born November 15, 1942 in Logan, New Mexico, to the late Juan T. Chavez and Annie Armijo Chavez, the 4^th of 13 children. She loved spending quality time with her family and watching old Western movies.  She loved her coffee every morning and enjoyed a slice of watermelon while she watched her shows.

Vera was a member of St. Theresa and St. Joseph Catholic churches. She had many hobbies including sewing, cooking, and playing 31 with her family. She held various occupations such as a young migrant worker, working at a cleaners and ironing, a machine operator at Alenco Glass Company, and most famously, the “Taco Lady” of Bryan.  She enjoyed being a homemaker in the later years of her life and spent her days visiting with family and friends in her home.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Ralph Arredondo; brother, Adolfo Chavez; sisters, Dora Montana, Beatrice Garcia, Rosa Maria Chavez, and Tomasa Chavez; daughter, Annie Arredondo; and great-grandson, Jay Corona Arredondo.

Survivors include her sons, Ralph Jr. and wife Charlotte, Martin and wife Yolanda, Ruben and wife Rosie, Johnny and wife Molly, Mario and wife Becky, Michael and wife Nancy; her daughters, Donna, Lisa and partner Richard Soto, and Ivy; 33 grandchildren; 84 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Ramona Torres, Eloisa Ybarra, Juana Chavez, and Rosa Garcia; her brothers Albert Chavez, Frank Chavez, and Ricardo Chavez, as well as many nieces and nephews, neighbors, coworkers, and friends and fellow church members.
