Sylvia Garcia

Sylvia Garcia

Our beautiful mother, Sylvia Garcia, passed away October 26, 2018 at the age of 63.  She was born February 20, 1955 in Bryan to Jose Angel and Jesusa (Chavez) Garcia.  One of seven children, she moved with her family to Venice Beach, CA when she was 5.  Although most of her life was lived here in Bryan, she often talked about her memories there. Our Mother was a strong Christian who believed in the power of prayer, and attended Aldersgate.

She was a loving mother of six children.  She had 3 girls and 3 boys, and often joked that we were the Brady Bunch. There was nothing she wouldn't do for us.  She was an incredibly hard worker, often working two or three jobs making sure we were provided for. While putting herself through hair school, she worked at Longhorn Tavern Steakhouse.  After acquiring her cosmetology license, she worked for 20 years at JCPenny Salon and later became part owner of Changes Hair Salon.  She loved working as a hair stylist and had so much fun with her friends and clients at the salon, often playing jokes and pranks. She loved dancing and listening to Tejano, 70’s and 80’s music, as well as attending concerts. Her favorite artist was Phil Collins. She loved going out to eat and to the movies with her sisters, cousins, and close friends. She enjoyed traveling, especially to see her son in Austin, and special trips with family to gamble in Louisiana, and visiting the Bahamas, New York, Colorado, and California. She loved shopping, watching reality television, but most of all loved spending quality time with her children and grandchildren; Playing cards, putting puzzles together, and drawing. We were the light of her life!

She loved hosting Holiday Parties at her house for us, and having her youngest son, Gentry, play the guitar and sing to her. Everyone loved her turkey and dressing, which was her father’s recipe, and her favorite dish of all was her son-in-law's banana pudding. Halloween was our Mom’s absolute favorite holiday! She loved seeing her grandkids and her pug Mickey in their costumes and giving out candy. Our mother Sylvia loved spending quality time us, and told stories that made everyone laugh. She was the life of the party, and the best mother and grandmother ever, and we will miss her so much.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents Jesusa Chavez-Garcia and Jose Angel Garcia, her brothers Joseph Garcia, Robert Lee Garcia, and Rudolpho (Rudy) Garcia and her precious pug Mickey.

She is survived by her siblings Irma and her husband Ambrosio Bernal, Viola Milazzo, Arthur Garcia, and sisters in law Maggie Garcia Deaver, and Gloria Garcia; her daughter and son-in-law Sandra and Johnny Castillo Jr., her daughter and son-in-law Melanie and David Rivera, her son Raul Angel Sauseda , her daughter and son-in-law Tiffany and Israel Galaviz, her son Bryan Sauseda, her son Gentry Collins Garcia, her honorary daughter Michelle Gonzales, her grandchildren Morgan and Roy Sauseda; David Ryan and Zane Rivera; Johnny and Gianna Castillo; Isla and Iselle Galaviz; and her honorary grandchildren Ashlynn Gonzales and Kingston McMillian.
