Sid L. Berger, 88, passed away at his home, of natural causes, on March 15, 2024. Born on January 26, 1936, Sid lived life with passion.
Born and raised in Bryan, Texas, he graduated from Bryan High School in 1954 and then graduated from The University of Texas at Austin and South Texas College of Law. Sid practiced Law in Houston for many years and was a State District Court Judge in Harris County. He enjoyed the legal profession, but his real love was law enforcement. Sid spent many years with the Harris County Sheriffs’ Department in various positions. He loved his job in Hudspeth County Texas as a Sheriffs’ Deputy/Attorney for the State of Texas.
The combination of his legal background and law enforcement training expertise were of great value. He achieved many advanced certifications and was most proud of his certificate as a Master Peace Officer. Sid worked intently on operations with the US Border Patrol, DPS, Texas Rangers and numerous other agencies. He worked in Hudspeth County well into his ‘80’s and continued to work on Border Operations as a consultant till this year. He was a Lifetime Committee Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, serving on the International Committee since 1963 and was honored as a Diplomat. Sid was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mrs. Inez Berger who very successfully ran Inez Berger Realty until her death in 2000. Sid loved his mother deeply.
Sid was also a Real Estate Broker and enjoyed many years of real estate investing and management in the Bryan/College Station markets.
He is survived by his cousin Frank Sosolik, Jr. of BCS. Sid leaves behind a plethora of good friends and business associates.
He was a good man and did a lot to help so many. A prince of a gentleman and will be missed by many.
A memorial service will be held for Sid at Hillier of Bryan, 2301 East 29th Street, Bryan, Texas 77802 at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 with burial following at Bethel Cemetery at 5018 Hardy Weedon Road, College Station, Texas 77845.
