Sarah A. Tarver (Hanover)

Sarah Anne Tarver, 93, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on January 11, 2023.

Sarah was born in Bryan, Texas, to Grady and Kathleen Hanover on July 20, 1929. She attended public schools in Wheelock and Bryan. Sarah was always proud to proclaim that she was a graduate of The University of Texas with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Theory, and an additional teaching certification. She married Rosco Tarver on July 25, 1953; they lived in Port Arthur, Texas, where she was a public school elementary music teacher and church musician, and he was employed by the Gulf Oil refinery. After their first child was born, she retired from teaching to devote her time to her growing family and church work. Retiring as a church organist at First Baptist Church in Port Arthur in 2001, Sarah moved to Dallas after Rosco’s death in order to be closer to family. She soon joined Park Cities Baptist Church, where she sang in the Sanctuary Choir, worked with a team of volunteers who took care of the choir music folders, and loved being part of the vibrant music program at that church.      

Sarah is preceded in death by her husband, Rosco; parents, Grady and Kathleen Hanover; brothers, Gen. Joe Hanover, Bill Hanover, and Tom Hanover, and their wives. 

Sarah is survived by children, John Tarver and his wife Paula, Joe Tarver, Jerry Tarver and his wife Laury, and Nancy Plotts; and four grandchildren, Travis Tarver, Annie Helms and her husband Danny, Collin Plotts, and Ashton Polachek and her husband Sam.
