Sarah Cobb

Sarah Anne Phillips Cobb, 48, of College Station passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2008. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at Hillier Funeral Home. Services are set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 6, at A&M Church of Christ, located at 2475 Earl Rudder Fwy. in College Station.

Sarah Anne, a true Southern belle from the piney woods of East Texas, was born on November 24, 1959 in Tyler, Texas. She grew up in Henderson, Texas, where she attended elementary through high school. After graduation, Sarah Anne attended Kilgore Junior College and then transferred to Texas A&M University where she received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in education, specializing in reading.

She had a great passion for teaching and love for children. Her career began by teaching fifth grade at Lamar Elementary in Bryan. After being at home with her two daughters for several years, she returned to teaching pre-kindergarten II and kindergarten at Allen Academy in Bryan. She taught there for 11 years, touching the lives of many young people and their parents with her caring devotion.

Family was always a priority for Sarah Anne and one of her greatest sources of joy.  She loved her parents and was a devoted daughter. She married Brian Cobb on February 4, 1984, and they enjoyed nearly 25 years together. Brian loves her dearly. Some of their best memories that he will cherish and hold close in his heart are their family travels, picnics at their farm and the simple times where they could be together. They have two beautiful daughters, Stephanie and Elizabeth, who adored their mother and will miss her deeply.

Sarah Anne was full of life, wit and charm. She brightened many lives with her smile. Always a gracious hostess and ever a friend, Sarah Anne blessed many people with her servant spirit.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She was also a provisional member of Brazos Valley Junior League.

She was a member of the A&M Church of Christ for more than 28 years. More importantly, she loved God, claimed Jesus as her only Savior, and built lasting friendships with many people in her church family.

Throughout their home, Sarah Anne hung scriptures on the walls and one of them reads: “the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of God stands forever” (Isaiah 40:8). It is to God that we turn in a time like this – trusting in His sustaining love.

Survivors include her husband, Brian Lovick Cobb; two daughters, Stephanie Elaine and Elizabeth Anne; parents, Dr. and Mrs. Hugh M. Phillips of Henderson, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Melanie and Dr. John Taylor of Henderson, Texas; nephews, Blake Taylor and Adam Taylor of Henderson, Texas; parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Cobb of College Station; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Cobb of Frisco, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Cobb of Flower Mound, Texas, and Mr. and Mrs. David Cobb of Fort Smith, Ark., and numerous nieces and nephews.
