Roy Norman McDougald

October 22, 1953 — July 25, 2023

Fort Worth, TX

Roy Norman McDougald, 69, was born October 22, 1953 and passed away July 25, 2023.

Roy grew up in Iola, Texas and was active in many activities including high school football, basketball, 4-H, and FFA. He kept in touch with many high school friends and carried fond memories of that time. He was baptized at Iola Missionary Baptist Church where he attended services while growing up. He was very proud of attending Texas A&M for two years where he studied mathematics.

An over-the-road truck driver for most of his life, Roy had a lot of stories he told about driving across the United States. He loved talking about people he met and places he went and that he always wore his cowboy hat so that he could tell people he was from Bryan, Texas, his home for many years. He also worked as an Eckerd Drugs Manager, but his last job was what he really loved – driving a school bus for Bryan ISD.

Roy was funny and gregarious, and his humor and wit helped him make friends everywhere he went. He enjoyed playing dominoes, poker, card games, and computer games.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman McDougald and Dorothy Adams; grandparents, Ernest and May Adams and Marvin and Trannie McDougald; brother Don McDougald, all of Iola, Texas.

Roy is survived by his children, Roy McDougald Jr. (Rebecca) and Dana Winters (Thomas); grandchildren, McKenzie McDougald, Roman McDougald, Logan Winters, and Tiffany Blouch; and sister, Shirley Parker (Steve).

Following a stroke, Roy struggled with his health for the past nine years. Chronic kidney disease let to dialysis treatments, but he bravely lived independently until he entered a nursing home 10 months ago. He passed away under hospice care at Harris SW Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.

Roy’s memory can be honored by making a donation to The American Kidney Fund https://www.kidneyfund.org/ways-give.
