Robin W. Edwards (known as “Wayne”) was born November 30, 1935 in Houston, Texas and passed away on January 10, 2024, at the age of 88. He is survived by his wife Ruth of 65 years; daughter Ruth Rogers (Jeff), sons Ron (Erica), Jon (Michelle), and Tim (Erin); sister Jo Anne; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog Trinket.

Wayne graduated Caldwell High School in 1953 and Texas A&M College in 1957. He entered the U.S. Air Force as a security police officer, serving 20 years including a Vietnam tour in 1969 for which he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. He met Ruth while stationed in Japan, where her family were missionaries and they married at Tachikawa Air Base chapel in 1958. Wayne served as Chief of Police at multiple AF bases before stepping into his final Air Force role as the USAF Inspector General’s nuclear security inspector.

In 1977, Wayne retired as a Lieutenant Colonel and moved with Ruth and their four children to his family property in Somerville, Texas where he built a six-bedroom paradise home with an underground section, attached greenhouse, and indoor pool. In the years following, he started several businesses including a water supply company, a commercial greenhouse, and, with partner Alan Rudd, Angler Specialties fish hatchery.

A prolific poet, Wayne wrote and illustrated 17 books of humorous rhyming poetry and was a popular speaker, presenting his poems to delighted school children around Texas and as part of his volunteer duties at the George Bush Library in College Station. His works can still be read on FamilyPoet.com and his FamilyPoet Facebook page.

Wayne was a faithful church member and deacon at Snook Assembly of God Church and was instrumental in the redesign and expansion of the church building.

In 2019, Ruth and Wayne moved to The Parc retirement community, where Wayne continued entertaining new friends with his quick sense of humor and his poetry.

In 2023, they returned to Sandy Ranch. Wayne spent his final days there, surrounded by friends and loved ones before passing into the embrace of the Lord. Wayne wished for others to know Jesus as he did. His sense of humor and full spirit and talents will be missed but not forgotten.
