Rita Murphy Rougagnac passed away May 24, 2024.

Rita was born July 26th, 1925 in Galveston, Texas to William James and Eugenia Sophie Lasserre Murphy. Within a few years, the Murphy family moved to Houston, Texas.

In 1947, she married John F. Rougagnac, Jr. While raising their three daughters, Rita was involved with parent activities at her children’s school, Holy Ghost Catholic School, in the Bellaire area of Houston. She was employed as a school secretary at St. Jerome’s Catholic school.

Since 2012, Rita resided at Watercrest Senior Living in Bryan, Texas where she enjoyed many activities and friendships.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John F. Rougagnac; her parents, William J. Murphy and Sophie Lasserre Murphy; her twin sister, Mary Elizabeth Murphy; her sister, Sister Mary Frances Bernadine; her brother, William J. Murphy Jr; her sister-in-law, Marie Murphy; and her nephew, William James Murphy, III.  

Rita is survived by her three daughters, Rita (David) Fisher, Jean (John) Anderson, and Michele (Gary) Bankhead. She leaves eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Billings, Derek Fisher, Theresa (Jay) Luss, Shannon (Mike) Gorney, John (Kailey) Anderson, Johnny Boatright, Alison (Nick) Skalomenos, and Michael (Brandy) Boatright. Her grandchildren blessed her with 19 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will miss Rita.
