Renate Maria Lutz

Renate Maria Lutz, a loving mother and devoted registered nurse, passed away peacefully in her home on July 15, 2023 at the age of 65, surrounded by her loved ones.

Renate was born in Sacramento, California on June 22, 1958 to Donald Wilson and Elizabeth Thomason. She moved to Texas in 1988 and received an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Blinn College. Her kind heart and caring nature set her apart in her nursing career as she loved working with her patients and created many lifelong friends throughout her career. At the start of her journey in nursing, she worked in Labor & Delivery and Oncology at St. Joseph Hospital and Jane Long Middle School in Bryan, Texas. She later enjoyed her time as a school nurse at Sul Ross Elementary, and as a home health nurse for Hospice Brazos Valley. Her tenure as a nurse concluded at Epic Home Health, where she cared for critical pediatric patients. Renate’s time as a nurse was fulfilling for her, as she always had a passion for helping others and taking care of those in need.

Renate was a devoted mother, loving grandmother, and avid animal lover. She enjoyed cooking recipes from her collection of cookbooks, reading one of her many historical novels, watching Marvel movies with her family (her favorite was Groot), and supporting animal-based causes. She loved listening to music, and would always sing songs to her precious grandsons.

Renate is preceded in death by her parents and numerous siblings.

Renate is survived by her two daughters, Allison Palm and husband Jake, and Kathryn Derkowski and husband David; her grandsons, River Derkowski and Ethan Palm; and her nephew Andrew Wilson and wife Jaden.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the incredible staff at Hospice Brazos Valley, and the supportive team at Hillier Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Renate Lutz to the Aggieland Humane Society.
