Nellie Brunson

Nellie Ruth Brunson, 59, left this world to be with her Lord on October 9, 2022

The youngest of 11 children, Nellie grew up in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and attended Grants Creek Southern Baptist Church. Her first job was a waitress, but she also did some modeling and later worked in medical billing transcription. She met David Brunson when she needed some car repairs and they married on June 30, 1990. The next greatest day of her life was the birth of their son, Austin – the person that has always put the sparkle in her eye! She cherished her family and looked forward to family reunions, trips with her son, and trips with her sister to Las Vegas.  But, she always called her niece to take her to the annual Victoria’s Secret sale even though she was known for saying, “Get up and get ready, let’s go shopping,” and it would take her four hours to be ready.

A loving, caring, and most kind-hearted soul with a beautiful smile that could light up any room, Nellie was always willing to help everyone to the best of her ability. These qualities made her the perfect hospice volunteer in Tuscaloosa. She loved walks in the park with Austin and her do and when she couldn’t sleep at night, she was walking the dogs at 2:00 am. Nellie had the most beautiful Country Rose China collection as well as an assortment of porcelain dolls.

Nellie is now in the loving arms of her parents, Willie Ruth and James Edward Ballard; and siblings, Edward Ballard, Billy Ballard, Jimmy Ballard, Houston Ballard, Ricky Ballard, Louise Blank, and Rachel Ballard.

Nellie is survived by her loving husband of over 30 years, David Lee Brunson; her son, Austin Lee Haskell Brunson; siblings, Bonnie Petersell, Hazel Mayo, and Betty Burns; and her beloved dogs, Paris and Misty.

The family wishes to acknowledge Brazos Valley Hospice for the great care they gave Nellie, Joyce Brunson and Bonnie Petersell for tending to her every need, and David Brunson and Austin Brunson for always being there for her.
