The world was graced with a precious jewel on May 3, 1941 with the birth of Mary Kathryn Henry. The third child of Edd and Carrie Lee Henry, she and her siblings were raised by their grandmother, Sallie Brewer, her hero and mentor. She attended Centerville Elementary and graduated at the top of her class at Centerville High School in 1959 and went on to complete her education in nursing.
Mary was an RN at M.D. Anderson Hospital. She met Albert Carl Jones, the housekeeper, and once he saw those long, skinny legs in a nurse’s uniform, it was love at first sight! They were married on May 4, 1968 and shared 32 years together, until his passing.
She had joined the team at University of Texas Health Science in Houston, Texas and retired after 40 years of dedication. She loved her family immensely and enjoyed spending time with them as well as her friends at Crestview Retirement Center.
Mary was a woman of incredible faith! She was raised in a Baptist Church and raised her children the same way. She was baptized at Holman Street Baptist Church in Houston (Third Ward). She became a member, joined the choir, and worked with the youth. She loved God and her church so much and spoke often of His greatness! A resilient and strong woman, Mary spoke her mind but kept personal things private so that no one would worry. She liked to have affairs in order and was truly a planner; she would always say, “If you want to make God laugh, tell Him that you have made plans.”
Mary answered her call and took flight to Heaven’s gate on February 3, 2023 to join her husband, Albert Carl Jones; parents, Edd and Carrie Lee Henry; sister, Ernestine King; brother, Eugene Henry; and nephew, “Bubba” Deemond Jones, Sr.
In God’s care now, she leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Carmen Lewis and husband, David; son, Anthony Jones and wife, Dorothy; eight grandchildren, Carlos, Marion, Dezmond, Lorenzo, David Jr., Diana, Trey, and Anthony Jr.; fourteen great grandchildren, Carmello, Camren, Dezmond, Lorozn, Demontre, Jordan, Kennedy, Kenndahl, Jalen, Joy, Kharter, Dominique, Jada, and Lillian; nieces, Joann, Dana, Alicia, Marvita, Kerri, and Tiffani; nephews, Henry, Dieria, Chris, Robert Paul, Quince, Lesman, and Kevon; and a host of family and friends. Her legacy continues!
The family would like to recognize the following special people, Pastor Marie Nutall of New Jerusalem Baptist Church; Homan Street Baptist Church family; Ms. Rosei at Alumine Hospice; Brentwood, her neighbor; and many more family members and friends. Thank you so much for your love and support!
