Mary Margaret Carmichael

February 11, 1941 — January 4, 2024

College Station

Margaret Carmichael passed away on January 4, 2024, at the age of 82.  Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in College Station with Pastor Troy Allen officiating.  Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Wharton, Texas. 

Margaret was born on February 11, 1941.  She was the daughter of Gladys and Alvin Buehring.  Margaret started grade school in Magnet, Texas and then later in Wharton, Texas.  She graduated from Wharton High School and attended Wharton County Junior College for one year before transferring to Howard Payne University.  She earned a degree in Elementary Education and began her teaching career at Alabama Road School in Wharton, Texas.  She earned her Master’s Degree at the University of Houston and served as a Vice Principal and Principal at several schools in the Wharton Independent School District.

Margaret married Monte Carmichael, Jr. in 1961 and enjoyed 62 years of marriage.  They had three children and were very involved in their activities including baseball, softball, and competitive swimming.  She and Monte were active members of the First Baptist Church in Wharton where she served on various committees and worked with the youth.   After retirement, she and Monte moved to Lamkin, Texas and managed the family ranch.  They were members at the First Baptist Church in Gustine where she taught the senior adult women’s class.  They moved to College Station in 2011 and have actively served at the First Baptist Church where Margaret taught the senior adult class and enjoyed spending time with all her friends.  She was also active in the community and served as a greeter at the George Bush Presidential Library.

Margaret is survived by her husband Monte and her three children, Keith and his wife Jana, Kelly and her husband Matt, and Ken and his wife Kristen.  She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Harrison and his wife Sydnee, Hudson, Hayden, and Maci.  In addition, she is survived by her sister, Linda Kay Stollman. 

Margaret in preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Alvin Buehring, and her brother, Charles Buehring and his wife Mary Ellen.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Baptist Church in College Station, First Baptist Church in Wharton, or First Baptist Church in Gustine.
