Marie Henderson

Marie-Luise Henderson passed away on July 16, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Marie was born to Heinrich and Frieda Kalb on May 16, 1942 in Fulda, W, Germany.

She graduated from high school in Fulda and moved to Kitzingen, W. Germany in 1958. On November 13, 1959, she married Ronald Smith in Kitzingen, W. Germany. He was in the Army, and to this union came three children, two daughters, Ellen and Belinda, and a son, Michael. Marie learned to speak and read English using newspapers, magazines, and television and obtained her naturalization papers on November 10, 1964.

Marie married Robert B. Henderson Jr. on May 1, 1982.

Known for her love of family, her adventurous and stubborn sides, you always knew where you stood with her because she had “no filter” when talking with you. She loved to eat (but only good food), travel, dance, and cook German food.

Marie is survived by her children, Ellen Mikulin (Albert) and Belinda White (Waid) of Bryan/College Station, Texas, and Michael Smith of The Colony, Texas; sister, Johanna Ruckmann of La Vista, Nebraska; and nieces, Rosie Benton, Shirley Williams, Jan Pardi, and Jeanette Neubauer. Marie is also survived by her grandchildren, Jennifer Ensey (Emrick), Brandi Walker, Dawn Walker, Lauren Smolinsky, Brandon Smolinsky (Lindsay), Robert White (Karessa), and Lindsey White (Andrew); and great-grandchildren, Chandler Ensey, Elizabeth Ensey, Colten Smolinsky, Caleb Smolinsky, Tyler Reach, James Nelson, Lillian Nelson, Darius Davis, Kori Davis, Drayden Davis, Eli White, Cambreigh Joseph, and Cecil Walker Jr.; and many more nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she loved dearly.

Marie will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Marie’s family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life, not in the sadness of her passing.
