Margie Marie Wilkey

October 24, 1937 — April 30, 2024

College Station

Margie Marie Wilkey was a loving Wife, Mother of 6, Grandmother of 17 and Great Grandmother of 35. She was the oldest of five girls. She was a loving and caring big sister who stayed close to her sisters.

While attending Abilene Christian College in 1956-1957, she met Kenneth John Wilkey who was planning to be a single missionary in The Philippines, but one look at her changed his mind. She married Ken and in 1961 went with him to the Philippines even though she had never been outside the USA. While living there, she took care of their kids at home in Baguio City while Ken went out teaching all over the country.

She was a very creative person and shared her talents by making beautiful bible school teaching materials, as well as sewing for herself and others. Many of the gifts that she gave to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were sewn by herself. She sewed school clothes, everyday clothes, wedding gowns, bridesmaids’ dresses and dresses for special occasions. She loved to make matching coordinated clothes for the children in her life but while the dress style would be the same, she made each child’s dress in their favorite color. She used her sewing talent to bless those outside her family as well. She sewed mastectomy pillows for the Blessing Box Project, little girls’ dresses and boys’ shorts for the Magi Boxes and Cool ties for Operation Gratitude. She knitted scarves for the military and first responders.

She loved babies and children. She was the loving mother. She would say” You’re only as happy as your unhappiest child.” While living in Abilene, Texas after returning from the Philippines, she was a foster mother for the Christian Homes organization.  She also unofficially adopted many of her children’s friends. In her later years, she sewed miniature bears with “Jesus Loves You” on the belly to give to the children of church visitors. There was always room in her heart for one more. She made her home a place where everyone felt welcome. After one visit you were no longer a guest but friends that are family. She would tell you "You know where the cups are, help yourself.” She opened her home for bible studies and adopted the men who came to study bible with Ken as “her boys.” She was a mentor and teacher to many women both young and a little older. She taught bible school and trained others to teach bible school. She taught others to sew. It was her way of sharing Gods love with others.

She had a special way of really “seeing” you and recognizing what made you, you.
