Margaret Ann Jones

November 13, 1934 — April 11, 2024

Bryan, Texas

Margaret Ann Jones,89, passed away April 11, 2024 in Bryan Texas. Margaret, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was called to be with her Lord and Savior and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew her. Margaret was born November 13, 1934, in Bryan, Texas and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School, Class of 1953. Margaret attended McKenzie-Baldwin Business College and worked for the Texas Highway Department in Bryan. On January 23, 1954, she married Lowell Freeman Jones and supported Lowell as a military wife when he reported for duty with the US Army at Fort Gregg-Adams (Fort Lee), VA, followed by his assignment with the US Army Aviation at Fort Novosel (Fort Rucker), AL.

In February 1959, after Lowell’s discharge from military service, the family returned to Bryan, Texas to live and eventually raise their four children. Her interests turned to taking part in their children’s varied school activities. After the children graduated from high school; Margaret worked at Texas A&M University in the Atmospheric Science Department until retirement in 1999. Margaret had a great relationship with the students in the department where she was always eager to help them with their education challenges. She was thrilled when the students voted to give her the “Excellence in Advising Award”.

During retirement, Margaret and Lowell traveled extensively in the United States, Canada, and Europe. She especially enjoyed trips with the Traveling Aggies. She could remember the distinctive characteristic of each place visited when showing off the many photo albums she assembled of their trips. Her favorite place to visit was the Colorado Rocky Mountains. She cherished nature’s beauty by taking pictures of the numerous wildflowers and autumn tree colors during the summer and fall and enjoyed the snow-covered mountains and downhill skiing in winter.

Over time, Margaret became the self-appointed family historian and genealogy became her beloved hobby. She always enjoyed family gatherings and reunions and was eager to answer questions regarding their immigrant and ancestral history. The greatest joy of her life came when she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Margaret daily lived her faith in God and followed his teachings by serving others. When she was asked to help in the Kindergarten Department on Sunday mornings at Central Church, she felt it was a great honor to teach young children about Jesus and his unending love for them. After serving in the department for forty-five years, Margaret retired and joined the Friendship Adult bible study class where she served as class secretary for several years.

Margaret was preceded in death by her daughter, Dianne and husband Lowell; sister, Barbara J. Lloyd; brother, Charles Rahnert; and parents, Henry J. and Hilda E. Rahnert.

Left to cherish her memory are sons David Jones and wife Liz, Kenneth Jones and wife Cheryl, Bruce Jones and wife Maria; daughter Judy Ledbetter and husband Phillip; grandchildren, Austin Jones; Brian Jones and wife Alanis, Amanda Englund and husband Gavin; Allison Baker and husband Matthew; Matthew, Mark, and Rachael Jones; and Addison and Cade Cassady; great-grandchildren Natalie and Clara Englund; and brother-in-law Jimmy Lloyd and wife Pat, along with many friends.
