LaNelle McCulley, age 93, was born in Wheelock, Texas. She helped work the family farm while her older brothers served our country in WWII.
She attended the Wheelock School House, now a state historical site, and graduated high school in Franklin, Texas. She earned a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree from Texas Woman’s University in pursuit of a career as a Business Education teacher.
LaNelle met her husband, Harvey, on a double date and they were married for 39 years before his passing in 1994.
LaNelle was a disciplined and faithful servant of the Lord. She served God by caring for her special needs daughter, Rebecca, for 47 years. Lanelle provided Christian service in the community while serving at Sagemont Baptist Church in Houston, and First Baptist Church of College Station. She was a Bible teacher and served with ministry to international women.
LaNelle was also an active defender of the rights for special needs persons. She enjoyed crafting, quilting, and gardening. She believed in perseverance and following through.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Hayes McCulley, and their daughters Margaret Lynn Stott and Rebecca Gaye McCulley.
Lanelle is survived by her children, Nancy McCulley Coppock and husband Mark Coppock, and William Travis McCulley and wife Carrie McCulley; grandchildren Justin Cummings and wife Abriela Cummings, Charlie Stott and wife Casey Stott, step grandaughter Alyssa Long, and great grandchildren, Hunter Cummings and Wade Cummings.
