Jose Raul “Roy” Llanes, 88, passed away September 17, 2023 in College Station, Texas. He was born September 25, 1934 in Raymondville, Texas to Marcelino and Hermelinda Llanes.
Roy’s early years were shaped by his experiences growing up in Raymondville. A man of remarkable character, he was known for his strong work ethic and boundless love of the outdoors and the seas. Although he was a hardworking man, he also knew how to relax and have a good time. He loved fishing and feeding the crowd with home-cooked barbecue; the combination of good food and cherished company made these gatherings truly memorable.
Roy always enjoyed time with his family and friends, but not nearly as much as he loved fishing, trips to Washington or the Cascades, and going to dances. Those would be the days filled with your next best memory if you were around!
In Heaven, Roy will meet again his parents, Hermelinda Campos Llanes and Marcelino Llanes; his first wife, Norma Esperiqueta Llanes; and siblings, Adan, George (Llanes) Beatrice Llanes Stephens, Eva Llanes Garcia, and Delia Llanes Infante.
His legacy will live on through his beloved wife, Martha Joanne Gowan Llanes; children, Roy Llanes Jr. and Tish, Richard Llanes and Cathy, Anna Llanes Perez, Renee Llanes Cain and Charlie, Ruth Smith Galindo, Chris Smith and Laurie, and Caroline Anderson and Craig; grandchildren, Monique Sabatino and Mario, Junior Perez and Karyn, Daniel Perez and Stephanie, Nicole Perez and Joseph, Michael Perez, Hayden Cain, Jason Galindo and Emily, Jessica Llanes and Doug, Christopher Llanes and Bridgette, Jonathan Llanes and Emily, Paige Galindo, Christopher Smith, Brady Anderson, and Ross Anderson; 20 great-grandchildren; and his many, many farm animals.
The Llanes family would like to give a special acknowledgement to USDA-ARS.
