John Wayne Myrick

March 4, 1961 — February 5, 2023

John Wayne Myrick

John Wayne Myrick went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, February 5, 2023.

John was born March 4, 1961, the fourth sibling of five. He grew up in Houston and was especially close to his younger sister, Marilyn.  John was Marilyn’s first dance partner and the keeper of all her secrets.  After graduating from Milby High School, John began his career as a mail clerk at Amoco Production Company in Houston and went on to become a project manager with Verizon for many years, and later, as the project manager for the New Mexico Department of Finance.

John and his longtime partner of 33 years, Tom Lewis, used their time-off to travel between the Cape and Santa Fe, New Mexico, staying in touch with distant family several times a year. Family meant the world to John and he was always ready to visit and help whenever he could. He was an excellent cook and his dishes at family gatherings were always popular; he was fondly referred to as “Marty Stewart” by his oldest sister, Joy.  John’s kind, compassionate, and outgoing personality made him the perfect “Doggie Dad” and he loved each one for the joy and love they brought into his life.  Because John traveled for work, his first Westie, Blanche, would remove his socks from his suitcase as he was packing, clearly a sign she did not want him to leave. His Westie, Bernice, and his Yorkie, Bear, were by his side when he passed away.

John and Tom dreamed of eventually living full time in Santa Fe.  In 2019, he and Tom moved into their dream home at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, enjoying the beauty of the spring and summer months in Santa Fe as well as the peaceful snowfall in the winter.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Joyce and George Myrick.

John is survived by his partner, Tom Lewis; his siblings, Joy Myrick Teague of Bryan Texas, Cindy Schnuriger and husband Robert of Kemah Texas, George Myrick and wife Maureen of Austin Texas, and Marilyn Moore and husband Johnny of Bryan; brothers-in-law,  Stephen F. Lewis of Silver Spring, Maryland and Terrence W. Lewis and wife JoAnne of Atkinson, New Hampshire; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and dear friends and neighbors from near and far.  John never met a stranger and will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
