Bryan

John Francis Laymon, Jr., 62 of Bryan, Texas was born December 12, 1960 and passed away July 18, 2023.

He grew up in Lakewood, California and loved spending the summers in Oklahoma with family. He graduated from Greencastle High School in Indiana and furthered his education at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, earning a Bachelor of Science in Special Education.

John had a strong passion for working with special needs students and worked as a teacher for 27 years. His many students were challenging, but he endeavored to make sure they had a good education to become successful adults because he genuinely cared about them. He believed that all people should be treated fairly and with compassion and respect.

Following a blind date in Seguin, Texas, he married Kerry Metzer in 2017 in the mountains of Carrizozo, New Mexico. A loving, intelligent, and caring soul, John always made people happy and had them laughing. He loved telling stories, taking motorcycle road trips in the summer, riding his horse named Hank, and just enjoying country life. He enjoyed going to the beaches in California and to Las Vegas with his parents.

He was preceded in death by numerous family members, including his father, John Laymon Sr.

John is survived by his wife, Kerry Metzer Laymon; children, Anthony and Brittany Arrigo of Florida, Nick and Kate Laymon of Las Vegas, Nevada, Anthony and Brittany Laymon of Arrigo, Florida, John Laymon, III of Houston, Texas, and Tryo Laymon of San Antonio, Texas;  grandchildren, C.J. Laymon, Triston Laymon, and Callie Laymon of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Auriella Arrigo and Emery Arrigo of Florida; his mother, Colleen Ogle Laymon of Sequin, Texas; and his brother, Chris Laymon of Boerne, Texas.

The family extends immense gratitude to Houston Methodist Hospital of the Woodlands and Cancer Center, especially Dr. Sayl Bunyan, and Hearne I.S.D. for providing excellent care and support.

A Celebration of John's life will be held at a later date.
