John L. Davis, Jr.
1926 – 2007

John L. Davis, Jr., 80, of Splendora, TX, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2007 in Temple, TX.  Mr. Davis was born August 18, 1926 in Trinity, TX to John L. Davis and Estella Marie Watson and grew up in Wellborn, TX.

John graduated from A&M Consolidated High School, served in the US Army as a Private 1st Class and was a manager at an air conditioning company in Houston, TX.  After retirement, he worked many years as a Marshall for the Kingwood Country Club in Kingwood, TX.  He enjoyed his family, golfing, the outdoors and had a special place in his heart for his dog “Pudgy”.  ‘Papa John’ was famous for his “tall tales” and will be dearly missed by his 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  He lived in Splendora for 23 years with Vera Ferguson, his best friend and long time companion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Setsuko Davis and brother-in-law Lindy Watkins.

John is survived by his sons: Dr. Michael L. Davis & wife Debbie of Glenrose, TX, Darrell L. Davis & wife Gayla of Kingwood, TX, and John Mark Davis & wife Debbie of Spring, TX; daughter: Susan Davis Kite & husband Glenn of Humble, TX; brothers: Charles L. Davis & wife Jean of Bryan, TX, Henry L. Davis & wife Dixie of Seattle, WA and Glenn D. Davis of Tokyo, Japan; sister: Marilyn Davis Watkins of Garland, TX; grandchildren: Doug and wife Candy, Matthew (“Texas Red”) and wife Sharon, Chris, Barbara and husband Billy, David and wife Beth, Jesse, Daniel and wife Joy, Christy and husband Joey, Mark, Lauren, Mandy, Steven and Gregg; and his great-grandchildren: Paige, Bailey, Taylor, Mason, C.J., Ben, Davis, Cecily, Trayle, Elissa, Abigail, Trinity, Whitney and Reed.

He is also survived by his extended family: Cindy Ferguson & fiancé Ben Lee, Carolyn Lamb & husband Bruce and Brenda Gale Harmon & husband Glenn along with their children and grandchildren, Chris, Glenda, Michelle, Scott, Anthony, Kaitlyn, Kaden, Jeremy, Stephanie, Brook and Tyler.

Services will be held at 10am, Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Hillier Funeral Home with Dr. Michael L. Davis officiating.  Interment will follow at Wellborn Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5-8pm Friday, and from 9-10am Saturday at the funeral home.
