Joan Marie High (Joanie) died on June 16, 2020, in College Station, attended by her three children. Over the years, she had lived as a resident of El Paso, Rockdale, and College Station, Texas.
Joanie was born on March 13, 1943, to JC and Viola Dyer and had six siblings. She graduated from Rockdale High School, where she played drums in the band. Following school, Joan became a stewardess with Braniff Airlines, a job she enjoyed very much. She married in 1970, and was a loving mother and housewife for many years.
She loved gardening, hosting parties, and serving others in her community. For many years, she taught etiquette to groups of young ladies in classes called "Pretty as a Picture." She also worked as a BeautiControl consultant, hosted foreign exchange students, and looked for ways to help others. She loved gardening and had beautiful gardens in places where she lived because she loved to sit and enjoy their beauty.
Joanie loved to share her faith in Jesus Christ with anyone and everyone who would listen. Her church family, the Church at College Station, were her dear friends with whom she shared a rich history and much fellowship in the Lord. Joanie had a true gift of hospitality and always invited people into her home. She loved to take care of people, cook for them, and make the places she lived places that other people would love to share. Joan's heart for the Lord, and her love and kindness, will be something that those who knew her well will always carry in their hearts. To know Joanie, was to love her. And we all loved her very much.
She is survived by three children: Ann-Marie High of Dallas, Texas; Jason High of Austin, Texas; and Jennifer Rogers of El Paso, Texas; two grandsons, Colton David Cain of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Nico High of Austin, Texas. She is predeceased by her parents, and her oldest sister, Ann Dyer.
Joanie's Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2020, at 11am at Hillier Funeral Home, 4080 State Hwy 6, College Station, TX 77845.
