Joan Harriet Lee, passed away on May 13, 2024. Born on May 11, 1936, Joan led a life filled with passion for education and imparting knowledge to those around her.
 
Throughout her career as an educator in Florida, Alabama, and Japan, Joan touched the lives of countless students and colleagues with her intelligence, wit, and independence. She was a devoted high school teacher and senior advisor for students at Yokota High School in Japan. Her dedication to instilling the importance of education was not only evident in her professional life but also extended to her family members.
 
Known for keeping her sense of humor and sarcasm alive through the years, Joan's presence was cherished by all who knew her, including her caregivers. Her proudest accomplishments included emphasizing the proper use of grammar to both her students and family.
 
Outside of her career, Joan indulged in various hobbies and interests that brought her joy. She adored her cats and kittens, finding solace in their companionship. An avid reader and writer, she found relaxation in beach outings and boating adventures. Her time spent in Japan led to a collection of Japanese artifacts that held special memories from her 3 1/2 years there. Additionally, she enjoyed traveling through Europe with college friends and family vacations at Dauphin Island Beach where she delighted in watching dolphins dance around the boat.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellen and Horton Hutchison; brother, Bill Hutchison; and niece, Audrey Hutchison.

Joan will be deeply missed by her children, Dora Lee and Ambrose Haberstroh, John and Tracie Lee, Jennifer Lee Cowgill, Jeannie Carter; grandchildren, Julie Knabe, Jeff Knabe, Oscar Almeida, Adrienne Almeida, Kayle Slovacek, Amber Haberstroh, Jack Haberstroh, Jack Lee, Mysty McGiuire, Christina Cook and Jordan Lee; and great-grandchildren, Landon Knabe and Caroline, Greyson Knabe and Khloe Brown, Hayden Knabe, Tristan Maxwell, Ellie Slovacek, Rhys Lee, Jakob Lee, Bella Lee, and Remi Lee 
 
In honoring Joan's memory, let us celebrate a life well-lived - one dedicated to education, family values, and creating lasting memories with loved ones. May her legacy continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
