Jo Ann Wofford, 83 passed away peacefully on Saturday November 4, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.  She was welcomed into the glory of heaven and enters pain-free.  Private graveside services were held on Thursday November 9, 2023 at Rest-Ever Cemetery in Bryan, TX.

Jo Ann was born on March 23, 1940 to Joe and Lillian Brown in Bryan, TX.  She graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1958.

She married Henry L. Wedel on June 21, 1958 in Bryan, TX.  They welcomed four children: Vicki Lea, Stephen Wayne, William Joseph and Daniel Frederick.

Jo Ann had an extensive career as a secretary that over the years became known as an Administrative Assistant.  She started as the church secretary at Calvary Baptist Church followed by Texas A&M Soil and Turf Division.  She then worked for the County Engineer at TxDot in Bryan.  After a relocation of her family, she continued her skills with New York Life Insurance Company in Midland, TX.  She ended her vast experience and expertise of 40 years with the Texas A&M Electronics School and retired from TxDot in 2000.

She married her last love, Jimmie D. Wofford on April 8, 1995.  They enjoyed the beginning of their 28 years together at Camp Creek followed by retirement life just outside of Hearne, TX.  They hosted many fun and memorable gatherings with family.

Jo Ann loved her children deeply, followed closely by a Grandmas devoted love and generosity to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Cooking and baking were a memorable learning experience she shared with them whenever possible.

She had a quick wit and sassy yet funny sense of humor and loved it when all of her Doctors referred to her as “Trouble”.

Jo Ann was John Wayne’s #1 fan, as is evident by the numerous pictures, decorative plates and movies proudly displayed in her home.  Frogs of all kinds and porcelain bells were collectibles she adored.

Driving through the State of Texas and exploring Texas History were also a passion.  Her interests in reading books were well rounded with her favorite author being Danielle Steele.  Sewing and crocheting were also enjoyed hobbies and she loved gifting personalized pillowcases.

Jo Ann endured many medical and physical obstacles that held challenges over the years, but she always did so with a positive and fighting spirit accompanied by her faith in God.

She is preceded in death by her son, Billy Wedel; daughter-in-law, Denise Wedel; grandson, Aaron Wedel; grandson, Daniel Wedel; step-son, Robin Wofford and step-daughter, Holly Rose.

Jo Ann is survived by her husband, Jimmie of Hearne; daughter, Vicki Mies and husband Jon of College Station; her sons, Steve and Danny Wedel of Somerville; sister, Dorothy Stone of Jacksonville FL; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. nephews, extended family and friends.

Honorary Pallbearers were: Stephen Wedel, Joshua Mies, Derek Wedel, Bo Wofford, Craig Wofford and Logan Parker.
