Jerry Lawrence Fling passed away January 10, 2023
Jerry grew up in Bryan, Texas and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School. The life of the party, he had a big heart and was always willing to help a stranger. He was strong-willed and believed in working hard, but had a smart mouth to match his red hair!
Jerry was married to Glenda Fling for 30 years until her passing in 2003, and then to Linda Fling for 18 years. He received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star during his U.S. Army service. Later, he enjoyed working as a used-car salesman for many years until he retired and fell in love with feeding his cows and serving as Commander at the Jewett VFW. However, the greatest days of his life were the birth days of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He loved spending time fishing at Taldeo Bend Reservoir. Tending his cows, running trout lines, catching fish, frequenting casinos, and collecting breakable pigs were favorite pastimes.
He is now reunited in Heaven with his parents, Sammie and Mattie Fling; his brother; and first wife, Glenda.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Linda; children, JoEllen and Eddie Oertli of Bryan, and Jay and Jessica Fling of Hemphill, Texas; grandchildren, Ashlie and Dillion Peoples of Bryan, Brittany Fling and Justin Wild of College Station, Scooter Purvis of Bryan, Garrett Oertli and Landen Oertli of Bryan, and Baylie Fing of Duran, Oklahoma; and great grandchildren, Kayliee, Kendall, Jordyn, Liam, Brody, Kade, Trigger, Paisley, Elana, Mason, and Athen.
