Jerri Kane

July 8, 1939 — September 20, 2023

Jeraldine Nix Kane, 84 passed away quietly on September 20, 2023. Jerri was born in Carbon Hill, Alabama, the daughter of Euple Lee and James E. Nix, the eldest of four daughters. Jerri graduated from Fayetteville High School, North Carolina and then completed the Registered Nurse (RN) program at the University Hospital, Birmingham, Alabama in 1960. She performed a variety of specialties as an US Air Force nurse, where she trained as a flight nurse and rose to the rank of Captain. Jerri met and married husband, Kim, while both were on active duty at Vandenberg AFB, California. She was devoted to her family, which included a son, Kim, and a daughter, Kristin. Jerris most cherished role was that of Mimi” to her four beautiful grandchildren.

Jerri and Kim traveled the world together: from Australia to Iran to Russia, and points between. They shared their love of travel with their children and grandchildren, enjoying several visits to Disney World. Her favorite destination was always home, gathering with extended family on special occasions, where Jerris southern cooking was loved by everyone.

Jerri pursued her profession with determination and resolve. To quote the observation of a friend, “she had fire in the belly!”. She returned to school and completed her BS degree in nursing from Texas Woman's University in 1983. Her primary specialty as a surgical nurse led to the role of Nurse Manager in a prominent surgical unit in Houston. Then after a brief retirement, Jerri spent several years auditing health agencies for the State of Texas.

Jerri is preceded in death by her parents and a younger sister, Karen. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, two children, four grandchildren, and two sisters.
