Janet Irene Pegg, a devoted mother, compassionate elementary school teacher, dedicated Sunday school teacher, and selfless volunteer, passed away on September 4, 2023 at the age of 90. She left this world peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Janet was born on July 28th in Brooklyn, NY to Amie and Charles Pegg. She grew up in Brooklyn where she developed a strong sense of family, community, and a passion for education. After graduating from high school, she pursued her dream of becoming an elementary school teacher, earning a master’s degree from Columbia University.

Throughout her 30-year career as an elementary school teacher, Janet touched the lives of countless students in Monroe, NY.  With her patience, kindness, and dedication, her classroom was a place of warmth and learning. Her impact on generations of students will be remembered and cherished for years to come.

Outside of the classroom, Janet was a devoted mother to her three children, Bruce, Paul and Greg. She instilled in them the values of kindness, compassion, and the importance of education, just as she did with her students. Her love and support knew no bounds, and she was their unwavering source of guidance and love.

Janet was an active member of Saint James Episcopal Church in Goshen, NY, teaching Sunday school and Saint John's Episcopal church in Cornwall, NY where she volunteered in various ministries. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she shared her knowledge and wisdom with all the members of the congregation, leaving a lasting impact on their spiritual journeys.

Janet exemplified the true meaning of an energetic lifestyle, enjoying running, taking classes, swimming, and working out.  Throughout her golden years, she remained committed to her physical well-being, working out diligently every day. Her dedication to fitness was not only a personal pursuit but a shared passion that she generously imparted to others.

In 2021, Janet moved to Bryan, Texas and became a beloved member of the Parc at Traditions retirement community, earning her the endearing nickname "New York." Her vibrant spirit and infectious enthusiasm drew people to her, and she quickly forged deep and lasting connections with her new neighbors and friends.

Janet Irene Pegg is survived by her beloved children, Bruce (Amy), Greg (Janel) and daughter-in-law Mary Jayne as well her four grandchildren Emily, Anna, Kendra, and Brandon. She was preceded in death by her husband Otto, son Paul, and her brother Kenneth.

A celebration of Janet's life will be held in the June of 2024 at Saint John’s Episcopal church in Cornwall, New York with details to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Habitat for Humanity or ALS Greater New York Chapter in Janet's memory, continuing her legacy of giving back to the community.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.
