James E. Dowling, Sr., 84, of Bryan, Texas, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on May 19, 2021, with his wife by his side.
James was born on August 3, 1936, in Wellborn, Texas, to his parents, Robert and Tennie Dowling. He grew up in Wellborn until he was 11 years old, and then he and his family moved to Bryan where he spent the remainder of his childhood. James graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1957.
After graduating high school, James served in the United States Navy for four years and then he began his career as a Union Electrician with IBEW Local 716. Although James was a journeyman electrician, he was also good at many other trades as well. He could fix just about anything and could even make parts himself.
James met the love of his life, Sue, through a mutual friend. They wedded on October 9, 1964, and have been happily married ever since. Together, James and Sue had four loving sons, Raymond, Michael, Jimmy, and Randy.
James had a passion for hunting and fishing. In his spare time, he loved to invite family and friends to enjoy these activities with him. James also enjoyed gardening and loved to watch his plants grow. He would often times proudly share the fruit and vegetables he grew with his loved ones.
James was a proud and active member of the Adam Royder Masonic Lodge. He loved to serve the young and new members of the lodge by teaching them the Masonic handbook. James was also a man of great faith. He loved the Lord and was thankful for all of the blessings he received.
James will be missed by his wife of over 50 years, Minnie "Sue" Dowling; children and their spouses, Raymond Dowling and wife Chris, Michael Dowling and wife Danna, Jimmy Dowling, and Randy Dowling and wife Leslie. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Mandi Barker and husband Chris, Brandon Dowling, Hollie Jimenez and husband Manuel, Audrey Rinehimer and husband Sam, Jordan Dowling, Lauren Dowling, Cody Dowling and wife Katelynn, Cullen Dowling, and Brayden Dowling; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; siblings, Lillie Jackson and Patsy Wiese; and many good friends.
James will be reunited with his parents, Robert C Dowling and Tennie C Warren Dowling; and siblings, Bob Dowling, Bud Dowling, and Evelyn Wiese.
A visitation will be held from 5-8 pm, on Thursday, May 27th, at Hillier of BRYAN. A celebration of life will begin at 10 am, on Friday, May 28th, at the funeral home.Graveside services and Final Military Honors will follow at Wellborn Cemetery.
