H. J. (Mike) Muehlendorf was born November 2, 1911 in El Paso, TX.  When he was four years old, he was sent to San Antonio, TX to live with is beloved Grandmother who operated a rooming house during WWI.  He and his Grandmother moved to Metarie, LA after that war to be with his Aunt Pia & Uncle Walter, Uncle Fred, Uncle Henry and Aunt Patsy, and there he attended and graduated from the New Orleans Public Schools.  He joined the United States Marine Corps and fought in the South Pacific Theater where he was wounded during a fierce battle in World War II.  He later met and married Clarine Mary Ard.  He loved her and her three children, Bud, Jim and Mary dearly.  Over the years, they also had twins, Emily and Virginia, Michael Jon and Paula.  He often said that his grandson Michael Craig was like a son to him and they had a very special relationship.  Always a Marine, he had a friend take him to the Marine Corps recruiting office in Houston the day after September 11, 2001, where he tried to enlist.  He was 89 years old but felt he wanted to do what he could for the country he loved so much. He was a proud Marine all of his life.
Dad loved God, his wife Clarine, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and he loved the United States Marine Corps.  He is preceded in death by his beloved Grandmother, wife Clarine, son Michael Jon and stepson Bud.  He is survived by his stepson James (Jim) Haley, stepdaughter, Mary Vickers, daughters Emily Rodriguez, Virginia McCarty, Paula Shaw and husband Brian.
