Hilde Jones

Hilde Jones, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away on January 31, 2024. She was born on June 20, 1950, in Unterbaimbach, Germany and cherished her wonderful childhood in Unterbaimbach, where she grew up with her siblings and cousins. They had endless fun together, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Hilde had a vibrant personality that touched the lives of everyone she met. She was protective, loving, funny, strong-willed, and determined. Hilde's grandchildren affectionately called her "Mutti," a testament to the bond they shared. She will be remembered for saying, "Schlaf gut," which means "sleep well" in German. 

Hilde met Rick at a dance during his military station in Schwabach, Germany. They were inseparable from that moment on and shared 46 beautiful years of marriage together. As a military spouse, Hilde held various roles throughout Rick’s assignments, but her favorite role was that of an elementary school bus driver who adored all the children she transported safely every day. She treated them as if they were her own and made sure they felt loved and cared for.

In addition to being a dedicated military spouse and mother, Hilde had many hobbies and interests that brought her joy. Cooking German foods, especially roulade, was one of her passions, and she always delighted in preparing delicious meals for her loved ones. Every morning, Hilde would go for lengthy walks with Rick, keeping herself healthy and setting an example for others to follow. During these walks, she made many wonderful friends throughout the neighborhood, including pets who enjoyed the homemade dog treats she would keep in her pockets.  Hilde loved to watch soccer, especially her favorite team, Bayern Munchen.

Hilde was preceded in death by her parents, Friedrich "Fritz" Mehl and Kuni Mehl. 

Hilde is survived by her beloved spouse, Retired Major Richard Jones; daughters, Claudia Jones and Jamie Thomas and spouse, Brent; grandchildren, Brandon Smith and spouse Teresa, Dylan Jones, and Riley Thomas; great-granddaughter Cora Smith; brother, Klaus Mehl; and sister, Anne Dowerg. 

Hilde Jones was a remarkable woman who touched the hearts of many with her kindness, love, and unwavering spirit. Let us remember her for the joy she brought into the world and keep her memory alive in our hearts.
