Helen Martha (Miller) Eilers

August 19, 1920 — August 24, 2022

Helen Martha (Miller) Eilers, age 102, passed away on August 24th, 2022 peacefully at home in her sleep.

Helen was born to Anna Sophia Weyen and Gerhard Miller on August 19, 1920 in Plymouth County, Iowa.  After her mother’s untimely death, she grew up on her grandparent’s farm where she rode her horse to confirmation class and to a one room country school, finishing the 8th grade during The Great Depression.  She cherished her grandfather, Johan Weyen, and was cared for by her Aunt Margaret Weyen Baker.

Helen met her husband Marvin at the ice cream parlor where she worked, and on November 19, 1941 they were married. Helen and Marvin took up residence in Craig Iowa, and had 3 daughters - Patricia, Priscilla, and Phyllis.

In 1964, they moved to the Minneapolis area, where Helen was employed at the Veterans Administration Hospital, and Marvin at the Federal Reserve.  They enjoyed travel across the entire country - from Spokane to Key West; New York and Hawaii; DC and Arizona – including amusement parks, beaches, and museums.

In 1980 Marvin retired and they moved to College Station, Texas nearby her daughter Priscilla’s family.  Helen kept active with her church family at Peace Lutheran.  She loved to read and travel.  She walked at Post Oak mall and crocheted a great collection of afghan blankets that her family still enjoys today.  Helen lived in College Station until 2006 when she joined her daughter Phyllis and granddaughter Myra’s family in Houston.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, and her sister Anne.  She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Lindner, Priscilla Noble and her husband Richard, and Phyllis McLane; 8 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She will be remembered for her love of hugs, kind and thankful words, sharp mind and copious memory.  She will be greatly missed for the Cheer she brought to everyone around her.
