Hal Carr

Hal N. Carr, 86, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Friday, February 29, 2008 at the Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Hillier Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at the Bryan City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday March 5, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Mr. Carr is a former Chairman of the Board of Republic Airlines, Inc.  He headed the company after being named President in 1954, at age 33.  He was elected Chairman in 1965 and retired in 1986.
The achievements of Hal N. Carr as an entrepreneur and corporate executive have many aspects of a novel about the world of big business.
Carr entered the aviation industry in 1943 as Assistant Director of Route Development of Trans World Airlines and was instrumental in establishing that carrier’s international system.  Later, he served as an Assistant to the Board of TWA.
Carr is a private investor with extensive business interests and served on the Board of Directors of a number of national corporations.  These included Dahlberg, Inc., Ross Industries, Inc., Metro Airlines, Inc., Cayman Water Company, and First National Bank of Bryan.  In his business career, Carr has been a director of over 30 corporations.
In addition to his service as a corporate director, Carr is a former member of the Firm of McKinsey and Company of New York, international management consultants.  At McKinsey, he was a consultant on financial and organizational matters to numerous industrial and governmental organizations, including Texaco, Inc., Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, and General Foods Corporations.  He also served as a consultant to the Secretary of the Navy and the Department of Commerce.
A   1943 graduate of Texas A&M University, Carr did graduate study in industrial management and finance at American University, Washington D.C. and served there as a Professorial Lecturer in Management Engineering from 1952 to 1962.  He is the author of several studies relating to industrial management.
Carr was a Trustee of the Texas A&M Research Foundation and a former member of the Advisory Committee of the Texas Transportation Institute of Texas A&M University System and of the Development Council of the Texas A&M College of Business Administration.  In 1972, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Texas A&M University and The Association of Former Students.
Hal leaves behind his loving wife: Mary Elizabeth Carr; sons: Steven A. Carr, Hal D. Carr, James T. Carr, and Scott N. Carr; daughters-in-law: Michelle Carr and Stacey Carr; grandchildren: Jordon B. Carr, Travis S. Carr, and Spencer A. Carr; brother: Addison Don Carr.
Mr. Carr changed the world by
being a part of it.  He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.
