Guadalupe Salas Garcia was born on Monday, May 13, 1929, in Mumford, Texas, to Manuel and Antonia Garcia.
He was the 5th child out of 9 siblings. His parents came to Texas from Mexico in hopes of finding a better life. They settled down in the small town of Mumford, where they started a family, they would become the first generation of American Citizens for the Garcia family born into a family of arms workers.
Guadalupe had only a 3rd grade education before he left for the fields. Joe Varisco had a huge farm which he grew cotton as the main crop. The family often remembers him telling them how it was plowing up the fields with a team of mules from sunup to sundown.
He met his wife to be Marcelina Diaz soon afterward. They spent 67 happy years together until her passing on May 30, 2015. They had 9 boys and 2 girls together. There are numerous grandchildren and great children. Guadalupe loved his family, especially the great-grandchildren, he enjoyed when they would come by his house to see him.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 1, from 4-8 pm, at Hillier of BRYAN. A Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, qat 2 pm, with a Graveside service to follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
