Floyd L. "Pete" Barnes

Floyd Lonnie “Pete” Barnes of Bryan, Texas, passed away Thursday, March 23rd in St. Joseph Hospital after complications from pneumonia.  Pete, as he was known by his friends and family, was born on May 23rd, 1926 to John and Georgia Barnes of Tabor, Texas. 

He served honorably in the U.S. Navy from May 16, 1944, to January 21, 1946, attaining the rank of Seaman First Class.  During his service, Pete was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, WW II Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Philippine Independence Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Victory VJ Day Commemorative Medal, and the WW II Victory Commemorative Medal. Pete’s military assignments included the USS Kenton (APA-122) where he served as a Coxswain on a Landing Craft.
