Evelyn Markowski

July 16, 1932 — December 7, 2023

Evelyn Josephine Markowski, wife, mother, grandmother, and house shoe connoisseur died on Thursday, December 7, 2023.

Throughout her life she loved to spend her time gardening, cooking, listening to polka music, and looking after her children and grandchildren. With great guidance, she encouraged her family to be independent, hold Christian values, and to love one another. She led by example that every moment should be cherished and that every meal is better because of the people you share it with.

Evelyn was sharp as a tack and never spoke an ill word toward anyone or anything, and if she did let a “that old whippersnapper” loose, it was followed by a solid minute of laughter because she had truly tickled herself. She never left home without a toothpick and Kleenexes and was a firm believer that the words “Heave Ho!” aided you when getting into a vehicle.

She was a fighter in the best way possible and her strength, sense of humor, and stories will live on through her family and friends. She had an indescribable light that never went out and an ability to bring a smile and a bit of sunshine to anyone she knew.

She was preceded in death by her loving spouse, Edmond Stanley Markowski; daughter, Irene J. Markowski; son, Stephen G. Markowski; parents, Edward F. and Pauline G. Wilganowski; siblings, Irene and Aloysius Cicherski, and Leonard and Elizabeth Wilganowski; and sister in law, Cora Wilganowski.

Evelyn's legacy will continue through her surviving children, Reginald Markowski and Beverly, Barbie Springer and Andy, and Denise Mais and Jeff. She will also be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Jaime Markowski, Jeffrey Markowski and Amy Snidow, Jessica Markowski, Austin Strahorn, Tiffany Velasquez and Andrew, Sydney Rike and Jim, Hayden Porritt, Sidney Giles and William, and Sutton Springer; and great-grandchildren, Reid Markowski, Truitt Snidow, Daylan Velasquez, Allie Velasquez, Luke Lucas, Elora Rike, Audrey Shaw, and Bennett Shaw; and brother, Theodore Wilganowski.

Evelyn will be deeply missed by all those whose lives she touched. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation and gratitude to Raquel Baez, Evelyn’s caregiver of five years.
