Ernie Laney, a long term employee of St. Joseph RHC, CHI, died unexpectedly on September 26, 2022 when his treasured Harley-Davidson motorcycle went off the road in Milam County.

Ernie was born March 28, 1953 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Ernest Newton and Flora (Hurley) Laney. Ernie was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He attended LSU and graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in microbiology and a minor in computer science. He completed Texas Peace Officer Academy and worked for the Brazos County Sheriff’s Department, for Brazos County in Information Technology, taught Jr. High Science in Hearne, and most recently worked as an IT Software Engineering Technical Analyst.

Ernie was a licensed ham radio operator and a member of “Thin Blue Line” Motorcycle Club which supports law enforcement and community activities.

He was predeceased by a brother, Brian Laney.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Cheryl Hillman; sisters, Beth Kantus (Will), Merrill LaPlante, and Michelle Ayers (Todd); several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Wilson.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Cheryl wishes to thank everyone, especially his Thin Blue Line Foundation brothers, who have provided assistance and sent cards and messages of condolence.
