Elizabeth Griffin

Elizabeth (Liz) Jean Griffin was born at Millard Fillmore Hospital in Buffalo, NY on October 21, 1944, to Gladys Elizabeth Griffin and George Norman Griffin. She passed away in Bryan, TX on January 25, 2023.

Liz graduated from Academy High School Erie, PA in 1962 and graduated from Penn State University in 1966. She and her cousin, Sandra, taught elementary school in Chenango Forks, NY near Binghamton. After two years, the two of them took off for Nassau, Bahama Islands and taught elementary school for seven years. Her daughter, Holly Lena Griffin, was born in Nassau. They returned to the U.S. and Liz earned her master’s degree in library science from the University of South Florida in Tampa. She was Head Librarian at Chamberlain High School in Tampa for more than twenty years. During that time, she took care of her mother from 1976 until her death in 1989.

In 2014, Liz and Holly moved to Bryan, TX to be nearer to family. For the past five years, she lived at Lampstand Nursing and Rehabilitation. She enjoyed visits from her family and watching Penn State and the Golden State Warriors games.

She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her daughter, Holly Griffin; her brother, Richard Griffin; her cousin, Sandra Hilborn (Tampa, FL); and her nephews, Matthew and Joel Griffin. She is with the Lord and free of diabetes.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brazos Valley Hospice in remembrance of Elizabeth. We are very appreciative of the care given by the staff at Lampstand.
