Eileen Joyce Phares

May 19, 1934 — March 3, 2024

Eileen Phares, 89, of Denver, Colorado passed away in Bryan,Texas surrounded by family. She was born in Denver, Colorado to Fredric and Winona Flattery. She attended Asbury, Grant and South High School, graduating in 1952. She attended Stephen’s College in Missouri, and graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Home Economics in 1956. She and Bob were married in 1957, celebrating 60 years together. 

She was in Job’s daughters and was a Girl Scout leader for many years. She was a life long seamstress, sewing for friends and family. She was asked by NASA in the 1970’s to create prototype belts for the Apollo missions. She was a member of Central Christian Church, belonging to the same Sunday school class, Kum Double for over 60 years, and was active in many different areas of the church. She and her husband, Bob were in a bridge group with friends for 60 years. Eileen was a volunteer at Tennyson Center for Children, working in the quilt room, and at Porter Memorial Hospital, working the information desk accumulating more then 25,000 hours. She also made Heart Pillows for heart surgery patients, and knitted caps for cancer patients. 

She and Bob loved to camp, their favorite place being Marble, Colorado, and four wheel drive roads in Colorado. They loved traveling and traveled around the north west states of the US camping along the way. She enjoyed any type of hand craft, sewing, cross-stitch embroidery, and knitting. She and Bob enjoyed going to Washington Park in the summers to hear the Denver Municipal Band play.

Eileen was proceeded in death by her husband, Robert Phares and sister, Carolyn Leonard (Jim). She is survived by daughters, Kendra Lundy (Michael) of College Station,TX, Deb Betts (Corey) of Spring, TX, Granddaughters, Jessica Jacobs (Nick), Ashley Lundy, Katie Rodgers (Cason), Christy Betts (Cobey Crosby) and Danielle Betts and two great grandchildren, Lexi and Kyle Jacobs.
