Edward (Ted) Joseph Kirby II, MD

Edward (Ted) Joseph Kirby II, MD passed away on June 30, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Dr. Kirby was born in Providence, Rhode Island on July 21, 1928 to Ed and Isabell Kirby and grew up in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin. Here, he married the love of his life, LaVerne Harte on August 11, 1951. He graduated from Marquette School of Medicine in 1953 and served as a Captain in the Air Force until 1957.

Ted and LaVerne settled in Houston in 1957 to raise their seven children, spending weekends at their cattle ranch in Washington, Texas until they retired there permanently in 1992. Ted enjoyed the hard work of raising cattle and the years of gathering with family, being outdoors, and eating dessert. He was a gentle soul who cared deeply for his wife and family, and his quick wit was always accompanied by a twinkle in his blue eyes and a soft chuckle.

After the birth of their first grandchild in 1979, he was called “Papa” by everyone in the family. Papa is survived by his seven children, eleven grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will be holding a private memorial service to celebrate Papa’s life.
