Edward M. Hary Jr., 86, of Bryan passed away Sunday, July 20, 2008, at his residence in the presence of family members. Services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, at Hillier Funeral Home, with visitation from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. preceding the funeral. Interment will follow at Bryan City Cemetery.

Edward was born on July 16, 1922, in Stephens County, Texas, to Edward M. and Una Maude Bridges Hary. Ed graduated from Monahans High School in Monahans, Texas, in 1940 and was enrolled at Texas A&M University in December 1941, when World War II began.

He left school immediately and enrolled in the U.S. Navy, where he served in the submarine service for three years and eight months. Upon discharge, he returned to Texas A&M University and received his Bachelor of Science in June 1949. Ed retired from the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station, in the foundation seed section, in 1982.

Ed was a member of First Baptist Church in Bryan, where he was a member of the Business Men’s Bible Class. He was a member of the Brazos Union Masonic Lodge where he served as a past Master. He was also a life member of Brazos County Senior Citizens Association, where he enjoyed many years of playing bridge and dominos, as well as assisting with maintenance work at the center.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of more than 64 years, Ruth; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Harvey Krueger of New Caney, Texas, and Lisa and Mike Parker of Bryan; six grandchildren; Brian Krueger of San Antonio, Trent Krueger of Kingwood, Texas, Stacey Fuller of San Antonio and Hillary, Heidi and Colby Parker of Bryan; nine great-grandchildren, Jackson, Sydney, Avery, Preston and Reagan Krueger, Alyssa and Haylee Hitt and Lyndsey and Olivia Fuller.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Bryan or Brazos County Senior Citizens Association.
