Edmund Nachlinger

Edmund Andrew “Buster” Nachlinger of Bryan passed away on Friday, May 31, 2008, at his home, surrounded by family and friends.

Mr. Nachlinger was born August 18, 1925, in Taylor, Texas, to Ed and Ebba Nachlinger. Buster, as he was known to everyone, was a great husband and devoted family man who loved woodworking, gardening and traveling with his wife, Helen, around the country in their motor home.

He went to work as a telegraph agent for the Southern Pacific Railroad upon graduation from high school in Elgin, Texas, in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in New Guinea, the Philippines and in post-war Japan.

Buster married the former Helen Louise Allen in Elgin, Texas, on September 7, 1944, just before shipping out for the Pacific.

He returned to work for the Southern Pacific after the war and worked in several towns around Texas before retiring from the railroad in 1987 in Hearne. He and Helen lived in Hearne until they moved to Bryan in 2004.

Buster was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Helen Nachlinger; two sons, Harvie Nachlinger and wife, Suzy Herzog, of Columbia, S.C., and James Nachlinger and wife, Kathryn, of Bryan; five grandchildren, Kristen Pillans of Plano, Texas, Justin Nachlinger of San Marcos, Texas, Kaitlyn Nachlinger of Bryan, Joe Nachlinger, of Georgetown, Ky., and Alex Gaston of High Springs, Fla.,  and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Justin Nachlinger, Joe Nachlinger, Brandan Pillans, Jim Tidwell, Jerry Larson and James Franze.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Buster's name to Brazos Valley Hospice of Bryan or to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Elgin, Texas.
