Dr. David Eugene Schob

Dr. David Eugene Schob of College Station passed away peacefully at St. Joseph Hospital on Monday, February 12, 2007.
Dr. Schob was born March 2, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois to parents Albert and Martha Schob. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences from the University of Illinois in 1963; Master of Arts from the University of Illinois in 1965; and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Illinois in 1970.
Dr. Schob was a true historian dedicating over 26 years of his life teaching history at Texas A&M University. He was the Director, Summer School at Sea Program, at Texas A&M at Galveston (1980-1987). Some of his fondest memories were the summers he spent teaching aboard the Texas Clipper TAMU Galveston.
Dr. Schob retired from Texas A&M in 1996 in order to devote himself to the care of his beloved mother, Martha. This gentle, kind man loved to read, cook, and was a distinguished-published writer. Dr. Schob was often a quest lecturer around the country and reviewed books for the Houston Chronicle.
Some honors and awards received by Dr. Schob include: The Faculty Distinguished Achievement Award in Teaching (History) in 1991; Outstanding Professor for Teaching Award by Future Farmers of American (A&M Chapter 1989-1990); Outstanding Teaching Award by the National Agricultural Society (1987-1988); Outstanding Teaching Award National Agricultural Society (1995-1996); Oliver M. Dickerson Award; University Service Plaque by Student Corps of Cadets.
Dr. Schob was preceded in death by his father and mother, Albert and Martha Schob and
a sister; Mary Ann Schob.
He is survived by one sister; Barbara Schob of Springfield, Illinois.
Dr. Schob enriched the lives of many and will be dearly missed.
