Dr. Robert W. Shook

December 12, 1931 — April 18, 2024

College Station

Dr. Robert Walter Shook, 92, passed away on April 18, 2024, in College Station, Texas. He was born December 12, 1931, to Robert and Mary Shook in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Bob was a well-known authority on Texas history as well as Victoria and Victoria County history. Bob spent his career as a History Professor at Victoria College and continued to be involved with Victoria history as a published author and historian. He was the epitome of a lifelong learner. Anyone who knows Bob will understand exactly that. His vocabulary was immense and continued to the end, always amazing us. And let’s not forget his love of animals, especially dogs. There weren’t many times in his life that he didn’t have one or more dogs at home.

Bob is survived by his wife of 70 years, Helen Jean; three daughters, Mary Pennington (husband Randy), Sally Mueller (husband Fred), and Beverly Gracia (husband Jaime); and five grandchildren, Aaron Mueller (wife Marisol, great granddaughters Madison and Mackenzie), Lauren Hitte (husband Cory, great grandchildren Lincoln, Wesley, and Sage), Sarah Kirby (husband Jimmy), Benjamin Gracia, and Rachel Gracia.

After living in Victoria for 67 years, Bob and Helen moved to College Station in November 2023, to be closer to family. This move was a blessing.

The family appreciates everyone at Bluebonnet Court Assisted Living and the care he received from Bluebonnet Hospice.
