First girl born in the tiny Panhandle town of Amherst, Texas, Dorothy Jo was born to Arvil Ardelle Blair and Nita Jewel Willis in 1924, one of thirteen children. At 92, she’s been the matriarch of the family for many years. Five siblings remain.
In 1945, she wed handsome Army soldier John Edward Blair III, to whom she was married for 65 years until his death in 2010. They raised three children—Cornelia Ann Blair of Richardson, TX, Eleanor Elizabeth Blair of College Station, TX, and John Edward Blair IV of Justin, TX. Dorothy adored her four grandchildren: Celia Anne Jones of Richardson, Dr. Aaron Clay Cessna of Houston, and Joshua Ricardo Blair and Jason Adam Blair of Justin, Texas as well as many members of her extended family.
Dorothy was a quintessential 1950s homemaker, an expert cook, seamstress, wedding dress-maker, caterer and hobby painter. Even in her final days, Dorothy never left the house without makeup, lipstick and dressed to the nines. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Richardson, Texas.
A time for family to receive friends will be held on Sunday, April 9th at Hillier Funeral Home of College Station from 10:00 a.m. – noon. Funeral Services will follow, starting at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel with burial at the City of Bryan Cemetery, where she’ll lay beside her beloved John again.
In lieu of flowers, Dorothy asked that you donate to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice. She is missed by many friends and family members.
